Donnie G delivers again!

It may come as a surprise to find an article about The Emmys on a political blog. Nonetheless, every award ceremony is well known for having various political jokes and sarcasm. According to a recent New York times article, this year is no different. Donald Glover dropped a bomb at the Emmy's on Sunday night when he took a direct jab at Donald Trump; thanking him for making "black people number 1 on the most-oppressed list".

Donald Glover, or Childish Gambino, is a renowned actor and musician. He has starred in hit TV shows such as Community, and Atlanta (Emmy for best director; 2017), as well as guest starring in films like The Martian (2016). He has used his widespread and successful career to provide a voice against violence and oppression in modern America.

This article is an important read because it serves as a reminder that everyone has a voice, and that we all have the right to use it. It is important to keep an open dialogue about important political opinions, whether its an argument over dinner, or a witty speech to millions of people at an awards ceremony.

In her CNN Editorial "What women's lives are like when abortion is a crime", Alice Driver reflects on her thoughts and experiences after visiting a women's prison in El Salvador. She discusses the nature of abortion laws there, and how women can receive prison sentences for a simple miscarriage. Driver argues that the tragedy of this legislation in El Salvador is becoming increasingly relevant in US Government, due to Donald Trump's ongoing efforts to quell basic human rights for women. Driver is making a powerful argument here. She uses the atrocities of El Salvador's laws to help shed new perspective on the nature of abortion rights. However, she doesn't go as far as to say the US Government is one in the same; she simply plants the idea in the reader's mind that there are similarities between the two.
